Wood Case Care and Maintenance
Our wood travel cases are pre-treated with penetrating oil to protect the wood and ensure longevity, but there are a few basic maintenance and care steps you can take to ensure your case lasts a lifetime.
TLDR; don't put the case near any fire or heat source, make sure you reapply oil every few years unless you have to wash it with soap, in which case spot treat and reapply oil right after washing.
Dry off your safety razor before placing it in the case.
If the case becomes dirty, clean it off with a damp rag. If that is insufficient, use warm water and very mild soap, but please note that the use of soap means that oil should be reapplied after the case has dried.
If the wood ever feels dry—or every few years—we recommend reapplying tung oil as per the manufacturer's instructions (please take care applying oils like this to limit inhalation of fumes and reduce fire risk by doing the application and keeping soiled rags or gloves in environments with adequate ventilation—do not place in trash can or bag until 12 hours after application). Ensuring the case is always protected with oil is the most critical factor to prevent any cracking, splitting, or rotting. Unlike stains and paints, which require the entire piece to be sanded down for a small repair, penetrating oils can be spot repaired without issue.
The case should not be placed on or near any head source, such as stoves, grills, inside ovens, etc…
If the case is ever dented or discolored externally, this can be fixed by sanding the damaged spot (be careful not to sand more than is necessary), then reapplying the oil.
