Razor Upkeep and Care
There’s not much that you need to do to maintain your Western Razor safety razor, but below are a few recommendations to ensure its longevity:
Do not overtighten or overwind the screw when assembling.
During blade exchanges, clean the razor parts under warm water and optionally with a soft nail brush.
Slightly lubricate the threads occasionally with lubricant and protectant such as grease or blade oil. *
Try not to drop it, particularly on its head—the handle is pretty heavy.
* For the lubricant, we recommend using mineral oil, or a silicone or light synthetic oil. Avoid using cooking oils, WD-40, automotive oils, or industrial lubricants.
Shaving Brush Care
Our shaving brushes are built from scratch with the finest materials to ensure they hold up. Here’s how to get the most out of your brush and ensure it lasts a lifetime:
New brushes may shed bristles/fibers during the first few uses. This is normal!
Rinse thoroughly after each use and shake out any excess water; dry the brush on a clean towel or allow to air dry with the bristles facing downward.
To remove excess soap or any shaving residue, thoroughly clean the tuft by plunging the brush in clean water until the water runs clear.
Air dry the brush and allow it to dry completely— do not store a damp brush.
Try not to “mash” the fibers or press overly hard to prevent breakage at the tips.
Don’t pull the bristles. To squeeze out excess water, simply squeeze the tuft without pulling the bristles.
The brush does not need to be sterilized, but if soap and other minerals deposits have built up on your brush, soak the brush in a 50/50 vinegar solution for 30 seconds to remove these.
Wood Travel Case Care
Our wood travel cases are built for longevity, but please read our full wood care and maintenance guide to help ensure your case holds up over time.
In summary: don't put the case near any fire or heat source, make sure you reapply oil every few years, and if you have to wash the case with soap, spot treat and reapply oil right after washing.
Leather Product Care
All of our leather products (e.g. razor covers and toiletry bags) are built to last and designed to age elegantly and with character.
We recommend applying a mild leather cream and/or conditioner from time to time to maintain the leather’s appearance and help prevent it from drying or cracking over time.
To remove surface dirt, simply wipe the leather with a soft damp cloth.
Waxed Canvas Product Care
All of our waxed canvas products (e.g. toiletry bags) are built to last and designed to age elegantly and with character.
In order to maintain the vibrant finish and water-resistance, reproof periodically with Martexin wax.
Clean off any visible dust or dirt with a light scrub brush or a damp sponge. Do not apply heavy detergents.
